Welcome to Philip Biggs Brass Festivals Ltd, located in Cambridge, England. Philip Biggs Brass Festivals came into being for the sole purpose of presenting the finest brass bands, ensembles, soloists and conductors, performing a wide variety of repertoire in festivals and concerts in prestige venues. This new site will help you find out more about some of the foremost brass presentations taking place in the UK organised by Philip Biggs Brass Festivals.
Philip has been privileged to promote many of England's finest bands such as Black Dyke Mills, Fairey FP (Music), The International Staff Band of The Salvation Army, Grimethorpe Colliery, Brighouse & Rastrick, Fodens Courtois Band, Enfield Citadel and The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. In addition Philip has also worked with world-class brass soloists and conductors such as Harry Mortimer C.B.E., Elgar Howarth, Maurice Murphy, Allen Vizzuti, John Wallace, Vince DiMartino, James Watson, Robert Childs, Roger Webster, David Daws, Phillip McCann, James Shepherd, Sheona White and Steve Sykes. In recent times Philip has very much enjoyed working with London Symphony Orchestra Brass. PBBF takes pride in presenting all forms of brass having recently engaged Canadian Brass, The Wallace Collection, Fine Arts Brass Ensemble, Hallé Brass, London Brass and The Don Lusher Big Band.
In 1996, Philip was appointed by the London Symphony Orchestra as Event Manager for the 1997 European Brass Band Championships held at The Barbican Centre in the City of London. In the same year he was appointed Administrator for The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. Philip was appointed Contest Controller of The British Open Brass Band Championship in 1991 by the late Harry Mortimer C.B.E. and was a founder with Richard Franklin of The All England Masters Championship in 1989. In August of 1998 Philip was appointed Administrator of The Brass Band Summer School succeeding Gordon Higginbottom. Philip was the Administrator for the 2002 International Trumpet Guild Conference at the Royal Northern College of Music. In April 2003 Philip was made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians of the City of London. In May 2003 Philip was appointed as Administrator of the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass. In June 2003 the Freedom of the City of London was afforded to Philip.

The Brass Herald was launched in August 2003. The Brass Herald will be published four times a year. Issue two was published in October 2003 and issue three will be released in February. The Brass Herald covers all aspects of brass music and performance, from Brass Bands to Big Bands, Salvation Army to Symphonic and Jazz to Conservatoire Brass. The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain has been quite rightly described as The Jewel in the Crown of the Brass Band Movement. The 2004 NYBB Easter Course will take place at Taunton School, Somerset from Saturday 10th April to Saturday 17th April. The SPECTACULAR end of course concerts will take place at The Assembly Rooms, Bristol on Friday 16th April and The Octagon, Yeovil on Saturday 17th April. The Guest Conductor will Howard Snell and the Guest Soloist is Martin Winter. The 2004 Summer Course takes place at Bromsgrove School from Saturday 31st July to Saturday 7th August. The end of couse concerts are at Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre on Friday 6th August and The Victoria Hall, Hanley, Stoke on Trent on Saturday 7th August. The 2004 All England Masters takes place at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge on Sunday 30th May. The test-piece will be Harrison's Dream by Peter Graham. The bands taking part in the Championship are as follows:-Aveley & Newham, Besses o' th' Barn, Brighouse & Rastrick, Camborne Town Carlton Main Frickley Colliery, EYMS, Ever Ready, Flowers, Fodens Richardson, JAG Mount Charles, Leyland, Ransome, Redbridge Brass, Rothwell Temperance, SWT Woodfalls, Sellers International, Thoresby Colliery, Travelsphere Holidays, Yorkshire Building Society, Yorkshire Imperial. The All England Masters Festival is sponsored by Yamaha-Kemble Music (UK) Ltd, Competitive Band Cover, 4Barsrest and Cambridge Evening News.
The Brass Band Summer School The 2004 Brass Band Summer School takes place at Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire and commencing on Sunday 8th August and concluding on Saturday 14th August. We are delighted to welcome as course director and maestro Richard Evans. The star studded line-up of music tutors are Alan Morrison, Brian Taylor, Owen Farr, David Childs, Nicholas Hudson, Steve Sykes and Simone Rebello. The all-in cost starts from £285. The 2004 Great Northern Brass Arts Festival takes place at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on Saturday 4th September and features the Black Dyke Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Fodens Richardson Band in the Gala Evening Concert which commences at 7.15pm. Other star performers include Brighouse and Rastrick Band, and Rochdale Borough Youth Band. More artists will be announced shortly. The CWS (Glasgow) Band who were 1990 and 1996 Champion Band of Great Britain appear on this, one of the most active brass band sites. CWS are an extremely busy band - they have recently completed a recording for BBC Radio 2's Listen to the Band programme as well as recording for a CD. Following excellent concerts at New Century Hall, Manchester and The Mitchell Theatre, Glasgow where the band was conducted by John Wallace, the CWS Glasgow Band are looking to the future with great optimism.

Errollyn Wallen is one of the most exciting musicians in this country and has received wide acclaim for her compositions and her performances as a pianist and singer. Errollyn has already written one substantial work for brass band, entitled Chrome which was premiered by the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain conducted by Elgar Howarth in 1997.
